Challenges for the New Government in Tackling the NHS Digital Transformation

Medicine and Health Panel Webinar held on Tues 30th July 2024

Martin Bell, a highly experienced former NHS CIO and board member of a healthcare IT company gave a highly topical and entertaining personal view of the challenges for the new government in tackling the NHS, with a focus on the digital transformation aspects.
After providing an excellent overview of the general problems faced by the NHS, The presentation touched on a number key digital areas such as Infrastructure and Interoperability, Cybersecurity and workforce training. However, the key message centred on funding in comparison to our European peers. A number of practical suggestions for improvement were also provided. These included reducing barriers for new entrants in the NHS tech market, ensuring digital leaders were suitably qualified and linking digital maturity to the overall CQC rankings.
A number of probing questions and discussions followed. All participants came away with a much better understanding of what needs to be done and some thought-provoking but practical ideas to help move forward with technology in the NHS.
