The WCIT saddened by the death of Dame Stephanie Shirley CH

The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists (WCIT) is saddened to learn of the passing of Dame Stephanie Shirley CH. “Steve”, as she was widely known, was Master of the WCIT in 1992/3. As such, she was one of the pioneering founders of this Company. She had a very clear vision of the social impact which a modern Livery Company could generate. She committed her personal wealth as well as her time and leadership to bring huge early momentum to this Company, including endowing both our Charity and our Hall. As recently as this year, Dame Stephanie contributed actively to our strategic forward planning, always encouraging ambition for the Company.

As one of the early prominent female industry luminaries, Dame Stephanie was a role model for aspiring female engineers, entrepreneurs and business leaders. Her social and charitable agenda made her beacon of leadership for her generation.

The WCIT’s condolences are with Dame Stephanie’s personal circle and with her network of City, business and charitable professionals, all of whom were so inspired by her.

We will miss her; rest in peace.
