WCIT Golf Team’s first-ever victory in Cito Cup

Every year since 2021, the WCIT golfers have competed against the Royal Signals golfers for the Cito Cup. The Cup was founded as an opportunity to build closer fellowship ties between the livery and the corps. Played as a series of pairs matches one day each year, the event is eagerly contested by both sides. However, the WCIT had failed to lay hands on the trophy….until now!

The trend was working in our favour. In 2021, the Royal Signals defeated the WCIT 5-1. The following year, we lost 3-1 (there were fewer matches played but, still, it was a smaller defeat!). In 2023, the loss was 2.5 – 1.5. In 2024, the fixture was cancelled due to bad weather which we took as a moral tie.

This time round, we finished our four matched level with a score of 2-2. The rules of fixture dictate that a tiebreak is decided by picking one of the scorecards at random and awarding the win to whichever side won the match. Our server at the post-match dinner, Gemma, pulled a WCIT winner from the deck and victory was sealed!

We’re already planning next year’s fixture. If you would like to take part or are interested in hearing more about the WCIT golf club, please contact golf secretary, Court Liveryman Dave Robertson (dave.robertson@member.wcit.org.uk) for more information.
