The WCIT at the London Careers Festival!

This year Freeman Mark Flahant lead the Worshipful Company of Technologists’ engagement at the London Careers Festival at Guildhall — a fantastic two‑day event inspiring Primary and Secondary students.

We had the chance to engage directly with 500+ students and educators, and with 86% of those surveyed hearing of the WCIT for the first time, it was the perfect moment to showcase who we are and what we do. Our interactive presentation and 2‑minute circuit‑building challenge (with robot STEM prizes!) sparked huge excitement among some incredibly bright young Londoners curious about technology.

Our student sessions focused on:
🔹 Who the WCIT are
🔹 What the WCIT do
🔹 What Information Technology is
🔹 Why technology matters
🔹 Exploring careers in tech

It was equally inspiring to spend time with educators and highlight how the WCIT can support schools and students; we went through three core programmes:
💡 Young Coders Competition
💡 Cyber Girls First
💡 The WCIT Youth AI Hackathon

With 90% of teachers wanting to explore at least one of these programmes further, the appetite for tech‑based learning has never been clearer.

A huge thank you to the brilliant volunteers who made this possible: Alan Dainty, Venus Bailey, James Canning, Michelle Gurney, Past Master Michael Grant, Steve Lockwood, Alberto Bonaventura, Leila Thomas, Cheryl Martin, Simon Perriton, the WCIT Hall Team, Ji Li, and our Beadle Alan O’Connor.

Together, we helped spark curiosity, confidence, and creativity in the next generation of technologists. 🚀
