City Interest Group: AI and VR in WCIT
25th September 2024 from 6:30pm — 8:30pm • Information Technologists' Hall
Pan-Livery connectivity. Wondered if the Livery Companies combine and connect? And on what? The recently-formed City Interest Group is showcasing our pan-livery work and encourages others to get involved. Common issues are tackled through the connections developed between Companies. Learn more about how the WCIT is shaping the future. Join us for a relaxed evening to learn about and discuss two key topics:
AI is bringing with it many challenges and is moving faster than we can meet them. One challenge is developing an ethical approach. The City of London Lord Mayor’s Ethical AI Initiative is being developed under the Chairmanship of WCIT’s Nicholas Beale. Raj Roy will give the latest news including the development and uptake of courses on ethical AI; The Walbrook Accord addressing standards and testing; and the major global investors Coffee House Consensus on Responsible AI and listen to your comments.
Stuart Mitchell will take us into the Hall of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists through two virtual reality experiences. These digital recreations bring to life the rich history of one of London’s modern livery companies, with the blend of tradition and modernity as you virtually stroll through halls that have hosted tech luminaries and industry pioneers. There will be an explanation of how these VR environments were created, and a live demonstration showing how they work and how they can be used to collaborate and educate. Time permitting, attendees will have the chance to experience these immersive virtual environments themselves.
Followed by drinks and nibbles whilst networking and trying out the VR. Cost: £15 (inc vat). Members only.
