Dstl is one of the principal government organisations dedicated to science and technology in the defence and security field. Dstl supplies specialist services to MOD and wider government, working collaboratively with external partners in industry and academia worldwide, providing expert research, specialist advice and invaluable operational support. We are innovative, collaborative and impactful. Our responsibilities include:-
- Supplying sensitive and specialist science and technology services for MOD and wider government
- Providing and facilitating expert advice, analysis and assurance on defence procurement
- Leading on the MOD’s science and technology programme
- Understanding risks and opportunities through horizon-scanning
- Acting as a trusted interface between MOD, wider government, the private sector and academia to provide science and technology support to military operations by the UK and her allies
- Championing and developing science and technology skills across MOD
- International work such as coordinating the UK’s involvement in NATO science and technology activity
Key note speaker
Eric Coomber Dstl Group Leader C4 Systems – After a distinguished career in the Royal Navy ,the Police. Eric was called back into the services with the Royal Navy where he had roles including – Squadron Commander job at the Joint Air Reconnaissance and Intelligence Centre (JARIC), Transferring to the RAF where he carried on in the same areas of work in the Joint environment. During another Command tour, looking after Storm Shadow mission planning at Permanent Joint Head Quarters (PJHQ).He was responsible for highly technical advanced Command & Control Communications and Computer (C4) systems, crossing all security domains. During Op SHADER (Libya), his team delivered over 2500 mission planning products to MOD and NATO. After leaving the military he joined DSTL Initially with the Space and Sensing Group, then Space group. He then moved to joined the Weapons Systems Group and became a Project Technical Authority (PTA) in the land guided weapons systems area. This brought him neatly to his new role as Group Leader (GL) of C4 Systems Group.
