Join us for our New Freemen’s Dinner 2026 at Drapers’ Hall with guest speaker Alderman Tim Hailes .

A memorable evening at the magnificent Drapers’ Hall, one of London’s grandest and most historic Livery Halls. This special occasion marks the formal welcome of our new Freemen into the WCIT, a moment to celebrate fellowship and our shared commitment to the values of the City.

The evening will feature time-honoured City traditions including the Loving Cup Ceremony – in which a ceremonial two-handled cup is passed among guests as a gesture of trust, friendship, and unity – as well as a demonstration of the Rose Water Ceremony.

We are honoured to welcome Alderman Tim Hailes as our guest speaker

Tim Hailes is the Senior Alderman below the Aldermanic Chair. Tim is the Principal at Meridian Global Strategies Limited a private consultancy business. Prior to this he spent 4 years at Blockthree Holdings Limited, a fintech company providing a suite of consultancy and platform services for the digitalisation of assets using blockchain solutions and 20 years at JPMorgan where he became the global practice head for the equities division of the Corporate & Investment Bank. He specialised in derivatives and securities markets since qualification as a solicitor in 1995 and was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for services to the legal profession in 2018. In an irony not lost on him he was named The Legal 500 EU Regulatory (Financial Services) Lawyer of the Year in 2017.

Tim served as Sheriff of the City of London from 2017-18. He currently sits on the Policy & Resources Committee of The Corporation of London and, subject to election, has been supported for progression by the Court of Aldermen to the Mayoralty next year. He is currently the Senior Alderman Below The Chair (“SABTAC”). Tim sits as a magistrate on the Central London Bench.

Tim was educated at Bristol Grammar School before reading a BA history degree at King’s College London. He returned to Bristol following graduation to read law at the University of the West of England, Bristol.

Tim has continued his academic interest in history – particularly modern middle eastern political history – and is a passionate JRR Tolkien fan. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Pewterers, International Bankers, Solicitors, Firefighters and Paviors. He has long championed equality and inclusion in both the workplace and wider society.
